A Midsummer Night’s Dream

By The Oratory RC Primary School

At The Birmingham Old Rep, 2/11/2017

Appraised by Tom Barker

I would like to offer sincere thanks and congratulations to The Oratory RC Primary School for your wonderful production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as part of the 2017 Shakespeare Schools Festival. Students and teachers alike have put hard work, imagination, determination and passion into this production, and were a credit to the school. I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight just a few fantastic moments that you should be especially proud of.

  • Firstly – this production was so much fun! Your enjoyment was infectious, meaning that the audience had a great time too!
  • You showed a great understanding of the text with clearly defined characters and relationships which really helped tell the story clearly.
  • There was great use of music and movement – I particularly enjoyed the rap performed to open the show. You took ownership over Shakespeare and put your own stamp on a very well known play.
  • You definitely shared your story with the audience who were gripped with excitement and engaged throughout the entire performance. This was a magical and marvellous Midsummer Night’s Dream! Congratulations to everyone involved in this superb production. I hope to see The Oratory RC Primary School in the Festival again next year.
