On the 9th and 10th of January 2016 His Grace, the Archbishop of Birmingham made his customary parish visitation to the Oratory.

Archbishop Bernard was treated on Saturday to the Junior Oratory’s Christmas Play, ‘The Flight into Egypt’. Oratory pupils: Jakub K (Y5),  Oliver (Y4), Ruben (Y4), Natalia (Y3) and Szymon (Y2) took part in the play as did past pupils Dawid and Aram Manukyan. The play was an absolute triumph. It captured the trials and tribulations of the Holy Family as they escaped from King Herod and his bumbling guards. His Grace even participated in the play; he was attacked by robbers (one being Jakub K) only to be released after singing a verse of ‘In the Bleak Mid Winter’!

On Sunday, Oliver (Y4) served at the High Pontifical Mass; Ruben (Y4), Terry (Y6) and Yafet (Y5) served at Family Mass where Ruben (Y4), Ella (Y4), Abbie (Y6) and Natasha (Y6) read confidently and reverently.

Archbishop Bernard spoke with many pupils after Family Mass specifically those children who had made their First Confession and First Holy Communion in addition to children currently preparing for First Confession, First Holy Communion and Confirmation: Olivia, Benedict, Tori, Maya,  Maharla, Shane, Cody, Libby Sue, Fossy, Mai-An, Dominik, Ellis, Mong Ting, Weronika, Sam and Natalia in Year 3. Sabina, Ella, Finn and Joshua in Year 4. Alpha, Terry, Ciara, Lewis, Bernedetta, Natasha, Antonio, Casey, Dillion, Abbey and Eleni in Year 6. The children were very excited to meet Archbishop Bernard and despite some initial nerves spoke knowledgeably and politely about their Faith.

His Grace was particularly grateful to parents, carers and grandparents for supporting and teaching their child/children about the Catholic Faith by attending Mass regularly and being involved with sacramental preparation.
